Forensic Science Personal Statement

I have always been interested in forensic science & biological science and learning how different techniques and methods are used for solving crimes. Through school, i also had the opportunity to complete a week-long placement at edinburgh zoos summer science school, where many of my interpersonal skills such as report writing, critical thinking, and public speaking were challenged as me and my fellow team-mates, worked closely with the african painted hunting dogs. All of these experiences and events have lead me to desire a scientific, practical role, where i believe i can expand my naturally inquisitive mind whilst making a positive contribution to society.

I can remember how exciting it was to unbox our 1st computer in 97, as young as i was and as much as i knew nothing about computers i was able to assemble it in correct order. All of these modules, i feel, are enabling me to develop a huge range of scientific skills, and are really preparing me for the demand of university - specifically for a course in forensic sciences, which also requires a very multidisciplinary and hands-on approach. What initially drew me to forensic science arose from childhood intrigue into the intricacies of life science.

How very wrong he was! I have been brought up in a vastly growing digital age, where my interest has expanded with it. . But then when you put something forensic behind it, it makes things more exciting.

At kirkwall grammar, i was also a part of various committees, including the debate club, where i had the opportunity to debate in the orkney islands council chambers alongside relevant councillors. From a very young age ive been interested in computers. In recent years i have become increasingly interested in the study of how and why events occur and how science is used to explain the course of events. At the moment, i am currently studying a hnc in applied science at inverness college through the university of the highlands and islands, where i feel i am thriving in the more mature and social atmosphere.

A levels my developing interest in science, especially biology, became firmed up by the time decision time came. This sparked many different questions and curiosities about the use of scientific applications in support of the law, and how valuable forensics can be in solving crimes. My interest developed when i was exposed to the subject of forensic science at school after watching a video on how evidence is collected from a burglary crime scene and how forensic analysis techniques can achieve a successful conviction. I can still remember my first day at kirkwall grammar school in 2010, where an extremely eccentric science teacher demonstrated the classic elephants toothpaste experiment it was the most incredible thing i had ever seen. I have always been interested in the human mind.
